Zimbabwe African National Union-Patriotic Front political commissar Saviour Kasukuwere has brushed off reports that there is a gang of four that has turned against Vice-President Emmerson Mnangagwa saying this is “gutter journalism” and is being perpetrated by supporters of former vice-president Joice Mujuru who are also peddling false information that she has 100 Members of Parliament that back her. Kasukuwere told The Herald: “It is no longer journalism when we try to ascribe feelings of being unhappy even without asking the people involved. It is gutter journalism…. We would like to dismiss as baseless and false these innuendos and allegations being peddled by fifth columnists. President Mugabe appointed the politburo and two deputies and that is the structure that will lead the party in the next five years and they enjoy support from the rank and file. We support each and every decision made by His Excellency including the appointment of two tried and tested cadres, Cdes Mnangagwa and Mphoko.” There have been media reports that the new ZANU-PF administration set up at congress last month is already divided. A gang of four which comprises Information Minister Jonathan Moyo, Kasukuwere, Higher Education Minister Oppah Muchinguri and President Mugabe’s nephew, Patrick Zhuwao, has “turned its swords” against Mnangagwa for allegedly letting it down by giving its members less influential party and cabinet positions. “We will not be distracted from the core mission to ensure the party policies and government programmes succeed. The party’s commitment to the people of Zimbabwe is total and those who seek to divide the party leadership have no chance of success in their nefarious attempt to undermine the party’s unity,” Kasukuwere said.
