Kasukuwere says leave me alone, I work for Mugabe

Zimbabwe African National Union-Patriotic Front political commissar Saviour Kasukuwere has called on the media to leave him alone because he is not in the succession game at all.

Kasukuwere, who is also Minister of Local Government, is said to be vying against Vice-President Emmerson Mnangagwa to succeed President Robert Mugabe whose term of office ends in 2018 but is eligible for re-election.

He is said to belong to a group called G40 together with other younger politicians in ZANU-PF such as Higher Education Minister Jonathan Moyo.

Moyo said it pained him to see a demographic group being abused by illiterate political opportunists to describe a faction within ZANU-PF.

Writing on his twitter handle, Moyo said: G40 is “short for Generation 40. A demographic group between ages 18 & 40 which has been excluded in mainstream politics!…Since I coined the G40 as a demographic group, it pains me to see it abused by illiterate political opportunists to describe a faction!”

According to The Chronicle, Kasukuwere was also disturbed by reports that he was vying to succeed Mugabe.

“I’m very dismayed that some people want to start unnecessary and stupid lies about succession when President Mugabe was elected less than two years ago. I want to dismiss these divisive tendencies and urge people to stop to try and pit one against the other in a non-existent contest,” he said.

“We won’t accept to be dragged into unnecessary schemes. I’m not part of it. Leave me alone. I’m here to work for President Mugabe.”
