Kasukuwere nullifies Chigwedere’s ouster

Zimbabwe African National Union-Patriotic Front Secretary for the Commissariat Saviour Kasukuwere has nullified the booting out of Aeneas Chigwedere as acting provincial chairman for Mashonaland East. Chigwedere was kicked out by the interim executive for, among other things, failing to organise a rally for Vice-President Emmerson Mnangagwa. “Chairpersons of provinces must desist from taking actions beyond their powers without reference to the national leadership. Negative publicity being generated by provinces is not acceptable,” Kasukuwere said. The interim provincial executive recommended the expulsion from the party of Marondera Central Member of Parliament Ray Kaukonde, Uzumba MP Simbaneuta Mudarikwa, Murehwa North MP Tendayi Makunde, Goromonzi South MP Petronella Kagonye and Olivia Muchena. It called for five-year suspensions on Goromonzi North MP Paddy Zhanda, Maramba Pfungwe’s Washington Musvaire, Seke’s Phineas Chiota, Chikomba’s Felix Mhona and Goromonzi West’s Biata Nyamupinga, as well as former provincial members George Katsande, Lucky Kandemiri, Vernon Muringayi, John Mushayi, Peter Murwira, Marble Kavindikisa, Taurayi Pasirayi, Getrude Mariwo and Lillian Zemura. The purge is believed to be against party members suspected to support former Vice-President Joice Mujuru who was expelled from the party at the beginning of this month.
