Just added to our archives- Mugabe vindicated, the letter that changed everything

Zimbabwe’s President Robert Mugabe has been accused of bringing the country to its knees because of his “land grabbing”. Zimbabwe had tried to acquire land through constitutional means and until 1997 it had only acquired only a few farms. Then British Minister for International Development Clare Short dropped the bombshell: “I should make it clear that we do not accept that Britain has a special responsibility to meet the cost of land purchase in Zimbabwe. We are a new government from diverse backgrounds without links to former colonial interests. My own origins are Irish and as you know we were colonised not colonisers,” she wrote to Lands Minister Kumbirai Kangai.  We dig again from our archives and publish the letter in full. We have 320 other stories in our archives that have not been published on the front page.
