The only politician who has overtaken him in terms of followers is Movement for Democratic Change Alliance leader Nelson Chamisa. He had only 78 000 followers when Moyo went into exile but seven months down the line when he became the MDC Alliance presidential candidate Chamisa had trebled his following to 250 000 and this had risen to 567 000, beating Moyo, by October last year. His following now stands at 711 000 though he had posted only 7 600 tweets.
Moyo has managed to remain relevant by playing both the MDC and ZANU-PF, exposing how G40 financed Chamisa’s 2018 campaign and exposing corruption by Mnangagwa’s administration and divisions within ZANU-PF. He has even embarked on a campaign to get rid of Mnangagwa. Though he has failed up to now, this has gained him a large following both on twitter and in the media.
Although the government has said it is seeking his extradition from Kenya where he allegedly is, so that he can face criminal charges at home, some in the ruling party say Moyo is not a threat to the party and all and is doing fantastic work for the party in some cases.
The Insider has always doubted that Moyo is a sworn enemy of Zimbabwe President Emmerson Mnangagwa.
Though Moyo escaped from the country before Mnangagwa took over, The Insider believes that if he had been or was a threat to Mnangagwa and ZANU-PF, they would have nabbed him a long time ago. After all the man he is supposedly so much against, is the country’s chief spy.
Whatever the case, Moyo has the media in the palm of his hands, and there is no doubt that his copy sells.
Only one question remains: who is he working for?
