Jonathan Moyo says government must fire Mukupe pronto

Former Information Minister Jonathan Moyo says the government must fire Deputy Finance Minister Terence Mukupe immediately if its statement that Mukupe’s sentiments at a cell meeting in Harare are “both reckless and unfortunate” and are in contempt of President Emmerson Mnangagwa.

Responding to a statement issued by Information Minister Simon Khaya Moyo in which he condemned Mukupe for saying the military will not allow Movement for Democratic Change Alliance leader Nelson Chamisa to rule this country if he wins the coming elections, Jonathan Moyo tweeted: “If that's Govts view, a serious & truthful one, then Mukupe must be fired pronto. If he's not fired, the public & international community must take Mukupe's rant as the truth!”

Mukupe’s statement has widely been published across the world putting a huge dent on President Mnangagwa’s promises to hold free and fair elections and to accept the outcome.

Chamisa has told the world that there is no way Mnangagwa is going to win the coming elections and has pledged his 18-year old sister if Mnangagwa polls more than 5 percent of the vote.

The world had, however, warmed up to Mnangagwa’s new mantra that Zimbabwe is open for business and he is willing to re-engage with the international community.

Zimbabwe has already applied to re-join the Commonwealth and one of the conditions for acceptance is that it must hold free, fair and credible elections, respect the rule of law and protect human rights such as freedom of expression.
