Zimbabwe African National Union-Patriotic Front structures have continued to defy calls by President Robert Mugabe to stop calling for the ouster of national commissar Saviour Kasukuwere with Mashonaland East joining the fray.
Only three provinces, Manicaland, Matebeleland North and Matebeleland South, remain.
President Robert Mugabe has been at pains to stop the purge which started soon after the ouster of his wife’s deputy Eunice Sandi-Moyo.
His statements are viewed as a way of trying to protect Kasukuwere, who is believed to have been one of the main backers of the First Lady through the G40 faction as the President was totally silent during the demonstrations against Sandi-Moyo and Women’s League treasurer Sarah Mahoka who were forced to resign.
The purge seems to be targeting G40 members who had vowed to thwart Vice-President Emmerson Mnangagwa to ascend to power.
