It’s a lie, Mudzuri says he will challenge Chamisa

Elias Mudzuri, one of the three vice-presidents of the Movement for Democratic Change says he will be challenging party leader Nelson Chamisa at the party congress next month if nominated.

He dismissed a report by the Daily News yesterday that he had struck a deal with Chamisa under which he would be guaranteed the post of vice-president.

This means that the race for the top post in the country’s main opposition will be a three-way contest.

“If nominated, I am prepared to challenge anyone,” Mudzuri told the Standard.

“The news report that made emphatic claims about a supposed deal between myself and Advocate Chamisa, is wholly untrue. No such understanding has been considered, much less reached.

“The story could have only originated from a very mischievous tale bearer, seeking to engineer and manipulate public discourse to fit in a personal scheme.”

MDC secretary-general Douglas Mwonzora has also indicated that he will challenge Chamisa if nominated.

The Daily News is normally sympathetic to Chamisa.
