A member of Israel’s Diamond Exchange, David Vardi, was today expelled after attempting to smuggle illegal Zimbabwe blood diamonds worth about $200 000 into the country. Spokesman Assaf Levin said that his organization “will not tolerate dealing in blood diamonds.” Initial reports had said that Vardi was caught with diamonds valued at $140 000.
