Is Simon Khaya Moyo next?

President Robert Mugabe has implicated Zimbabwe African National Union-Patriotic Front National chairman Simon Khaya Moyo among those involved in the plot to oust him raising questions about Moyo’s survival in the party leadership. Moyo had been touted as one of those likely to rise to vice-president, but it appears that those that supported him have all been sidelined. “VaMutasa, he he he he ndaibvunza chairman kuti asi manga marangana here? Vaiiti ini ndichazoda kutora chigaro chehuchairman ndikati aah zvachine munhu aripo akakuudzai kuti arikubviswa ndiyani?  Ava (Moyo) vanga vasingarambi kuti vanoda kuti vasimudzirwe, vaibvuma. Zvino vamwe ndivo vakanga vasvika pamweya wakashata. Ambition idzodzi kana dzisingaitike, vanhu vakuda kutsvaga nzira dzekuti zviitike nhasi. Let’s get the President out of the way so tobva tazouya nezvekuti aah kana kushudha tingamushudhe,” Mugabe was quoted as telling the central committee yesterday. Mugabe’s comments would have ruled Moyo out but Moyo could still survive because he had done one thing that  his former colleagues have not done. He has continued to attend party meetings, which is a sign of remorse, and even survived a purge in his own home area. Some people believe that Vice-President Joice Mujuru could have survived the purge if she had simply gone to Mugabe to apologise instead of organising a party to defend herself and also challenging First Lady, Grace Mugabe, through the media. Grace, it is now clear, was speaking on behalf of her husband as evidenced by what Mugabe has said in the past two days.
