How rich is Zimbabwe VP Chiwenga?

Figures that Marry Chiwenga, estranged wife of Vice-President Constantino Chiwenga, is demanding for her upkeep and that of her three children in their divorce case currently before the courts raises two major questions:

  • How rich is the Vice President?
  • How did he get the money?

According to the Herald Marry Chiwenga wants the equivalent of US40 000 a month for her own upkeep.  At today’s interbank rate this is $682 400, or roughly $1 million at the market rate.

She also wants US$7 500 for the maintenance of their three minor children, $127 950 a month at the interbank rate.

Marry Chiwenga also wants one fully expensed international holiday per annum at a five-star facility, inclusive of spending money of not less than the equivalent of US$25 000.

One fully expensed regional holiday per annum at a five-star facility inclusive of spending money of not less than the equivalent of US$15 000.

One fully expensed local holiday per annum and spending money of not less than US$25 000 per person.
