Has Sakunda’s Kuda Tagwirei fled Zimbabwe?

One of President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s protégés, Justice Mayor Wadyajena today said Sakunda boss Kuda Tagwirei, said to be a close ally of the President, has fled the country with his wife and kids on a 10-year visa.

Wadyajena tweeted: “Kuda Tagwirei, @Trafigura’s affiliate flees to @UKinZimbabwe on 10yr visa with wife & kids after tip-off that ALL his shady accounts were to be frozen. Initial plan to run to US failed after being denied visa. This savage economic saboteur tried to bring Zim to its knees. Time is up.”

There has so far been no independent confirmation but when asked by Mduduzi Mathuthu about the veracity of his tweet, Wadyajena responded: “Cde, I never deal in fake news. I know you have very good sources at ports of entry so I’m certain you can get your hands on end of last week’s manifests. Alternatively, hit him up…though he’s likely to lie and claim he’s at the UN with H.E. The chap is holed up in London.”

The Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe last week froze bank accounts of Sakunda and three other companies including one owned by Mnangagwa’s nephew.

It froze the accounts of five more companies yesterday and some of them are said to be owned by Tagwirei.
