Chamisa says the congress will set the tone for a new rejuvenated party.
The High Court recently ruled that Chamisa’s leadership of the MDC was unconstitutional. The party should therefore hold an extraordinary congress to elect a new leader.
Chamisa’s party said it is going ahead with the congress and has invited its main rivals the Zimbabwe African National Union-Patriotic Front and the MDC-T led by Thokozani Khupe to attend the congress.
Reacting to the invitation, Gutu said his party had no appetite for attending kindergarten gibberish.
He told the Daily News: “If we want real entertainment, we go to a circus and not to a facade of a gathering disguised as a congress.
“There is the High Court order by Honourable Justice Edith Mushore to contend with. We are a law-abiding political party that resolutely believes in the rule of law and constitutionalism. We adhere to democracy and not mobocracy.
“Why should we be seen hanging around with that lot? No, that won’t happen until the second coming of the Son of Man. We are perfectly happy where we are.
“Let them wine and dine using the money they are getting from Robert Mugabe and Grace Mugabe. The chickens are coming home to roost. It’s not a congress, it’s actually a complete dog’s breakfast.”
Chamisa told his supporters in Chiredzi at the weekend that his party has great respect for the courts but he does not recognise President Emmerson Mnangagwa as the country’s leader though he lost the case at the Constitutional Court.
“We have no problem with the courts or judges, we are built on the foundation of constitutionalism, the rule of law and good governance. In fact, we have high regard of the constitution and constitutionalism,” he said.
“Don’t be afraid, everything we have done is according to the constitution. The court saw in a way that is different from ours. We respect the court, we respect the judges, but we have a right to appeal to a higher court.”
It what spears to be a response to the Chamisa’s defiance, Gutu tweeted:
“The law is the law! Scream as much as you want, shout as much as you want, the law shall always remain the law! Simple!
“Musakwidzwa ndenge yamashanga!
“Zizi harina nyanga!
“Mutuvi hausi mukaka!
“All froth, no beer!
“It’s GAME ON…!!”
