Parliament today endorsed the country’s draft constitution paving way for a referendum and national elections. Constitutional Parliamentary Committee chairperson Douglas Mwonzora said: “It was excellent and the lawmakers were very supportive and the verdict was unanimous, everyone called for a yes vote of the draft constitution.” But the National Constitutional Assembly is calling for a No vote against the draft because it was not people driven. While the NCA was instrumental in getting the 2000 draft constitution rejected, it had the backing of the Movement for Democratic Change which is now part of government and is a co-sponsor of the current draft.
