First Lady Grace Mugabe is reported to have been appointed to a key committee that will campaign for her husband and the ruling party in next year’s elections.
According to The Chronicle, the First Lady was appointed to the five-member Zimbabwe African National Union-Patriotic Front-member national elections directorate which is chaired by the Secretary for Administration Ignatius Chombo.
Other members are National Political Commissar Saviour Kasukuwere, Secretary for Legal Affairs Patrick Chinamasa and Secretary for the Youth League Kudzanayi Chipanga.
The paper said the directorate was appointed last week and has five working sub committees namely, management, chaired by Kasukuwere, Research chaired by Jonathan Moyo, Finance and Logistics headed by Obert Mpofu, Security chaired by Cde Kembo Mohadi and Legal Affairs chaired by Chinamasa.
At first glance the directorate and the sub-committees seem to be dominated by people associated with the G40 faction of ZANU-PF which the First Lady has said does not exist.
War veterans leader Christopher Mutsvangwa has warned President Robert Mugabe that veterans will campaign against him if he is seen to be propping G40.
Former Vice-President Joice Mujuru said G40 is actually led by Mugabe himself.
