From gore redzidzo to gore rebasa

That seems to be the transition as Zimbabweans move from 2015- the year of learning- where people pledged they would learn a lot of things- to 2016- the year of implementation or working.

It is not clear who is coming up with these themes but at independence the Zimbabwe African National Union-Patriotic Front dedicated each year to a particular theme but this seems to have died after the first four years of independence together with the leadership code that the party had drafted to curb corruption and greed among the leaders.

With mega deals signed in 2014 and last year, one can only hope that 2016 will be the year of implementation of those deals.  After all 2018 is now too close for ZANU-PF’s comfort. It must be clear to the party that if it does not deliver, it will say bye-bye in 2018 just like it nearly did in 2008.

It is not yet clear- and is perhaps too early- what people mean by gore rebasa because some are calling it gore rokuzvishandira zvako, which is quite vague as one does not know whether this means people have to dedicate themselves to working for their own upliftment as opposed to uplifting the country.

Zimbabwe has become a nation of people that feel some form of entitlement to a better life but without necessarily working for it, yet even the bible says those that do not work shall not eat. This year should therefore be a year of productivity in the government, in the private sector and in civil society.
