Former minister expelled from ZANU-PF

The purge in the Zimbabwe African National Union-Patriotic Front continued as the party prepared for the opening of its annual conference in Victoria Falls with the expulsion of Sylvester Nguni, former Minister of State in Vice-President Joice Mujuru’s Office, and two other members Christwell Mutematsaka and Batsirai Musona, both from Mashonaland Central, Mujuru’s home province.

Nguni was a Member of Parliament for Mhondoro-Mubaira which means his expulsion could lead to a recall of his seat and by-elections.

Several other members were slapped with five –year and two-year suspensions.

Party leader President Robert Mugabe yesterday lamented that ZANU-PF risked splitting over the succession battle.

Mugabe has kept a tight lid on who is going to take over from him and has already been endorsed as the party’s next presidential candidate for the 2018 elections when he will be 94 though at 91, he is already showing signs that he is too old to be running around.
