Evan Mawarire arrested

Zimbabwean activist pastor Evan Mawarire was arrested today for posting a video on Facebook yesterday lambasting the government over its economic policies.

He is already facing another subversion charge for allegedly inciting Zimbabweans last year through his Youtube posts under #This Flag and is due to appear in court tomorrow.

Zimbabweans are in panic mode following reports of pending food shortages reminiscent of the 2008 when prices went up sometimes twice or three times in a single day.

Central Bank governor John Mangudya has described the news mostly circulating through the social media as “fake news” while Home Affairs Minister Ignatius Chombo has threatened to deal with the perpetrators.
