The ethanol plant in Chisumbanje was built without an Environmental Impact Assessment being carried out, Parliament was told today. Green Fuel built the US$600 million plant under a Build Operate Transfer agreement with the Agriculture and Rural Development Authority. The biggest in Africa, the plant has the capacity to produce 120 000 litres of fuel per day and to generate 18 megawatts of electricity per day, among other by-products.
