The expulsion was announced this afternoon by acting Speaker William Mutomba who told the House that the Zimbabwe African National Union-Patriotic Front had notified Parliament that Mutsvangwa ceased to be a Member of Parliament on 6 July.
Mutsvangwa was expelled for bringing the party into disrepute.
In a statement announcing his expulsion, the party said: “Having gone through your appeal, the committee found that you were neither apologetic nor remorseful in your behaviour. You continued to denigrate senior party leaders, bringing ZANU- PF into disrepute. Your actions and utterances violated the mended ZANU- PF Constitution Article 28, Section 262 read in conjunction with Article 3 Section 21 leading to your expulsion.”
Sources said Mutsvangwa will now have to step down as war veterans leader but will not be expelled from the association.
“He did not do anything really bad worth expulsion at all,” one war veteran said. “He is being made a sacrificial lamp to appease those in power.”
Mutsvangwa and his wife were both initially suspended from the party but his wife was spared.
Mutsvangwa is reported to belong to Vice-President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s faction and was at the forefront of castigating the G40 faction which is allegedly loyal to First Lady Grace Mugabe.
War veterans bluntly told President Robert Mugabe that they would not entertain any slogans except those relating to the party and Mugabe himself.
This was in reference to slogans by G40 such as “Kusina Mai Hakuendwe”.
