Embassy wanted Mnangagwa’s three daughters to be added to sanctions list

The United States embassy in Harare suggested that Emmerson Mnangagwa’s three daughters should be added to the sanctions list in response to the flawed March 2005 elections and the brutal Operation Restore Order.

Mnangagwa had already suffered a double-blow first by losing his seat and then by being demoted from the powerful post of Speaker of Parliament.

The Zimbabwe African National Union-Patriotic Front had, however, won the elections with a two-thirds majority.

The daughters who were to be added to the list were Chido Emmah, Justine Mhurai and Farai Seline.

Earlier the embassy had only mentioned two daughters who were studying in Texas. The cable did not state where the three daughters, who were all over 20, were.
