Down the drain

The human race uses more water in washing away what it has consumed than on anything else, according to results of studies released to The Insider by a leading estate agent.

The studies have shown that people spend 32% of their water allocation on flushing toilets and just one percent on drinking. The other bulk of the water is used for cooking, washing the dishes and other uses.

Only 17% is used for bathing or showering while those with washing machines use 12% for this purpose. The remaining three percent is used externally.

This probably explains why health authorities are quick to condemn buildings without water as health hazards.
