Day of reckoning for ZANU-PF and Zimpapers

It will be all over today and tomorrow people will be at Heroes’ Acre laying another liberation hero to rest.  Speaker of Parliament, Jacob Mudenda, summed it up all. “Factionalism, starting from this Congress, should never again find its way into the vocabulary and practices of this revolutionary party. What has been done is done. The next few days, months even, must be a time to heal and reconcile. Those who repent and are remorseful must not be persecuted, but we must embrace and gently mentor them back into rectitude.” Indeed, ZANU-PF needs a lot of healing and accepting those who were led astray back into the party. And with the congress over, it is now time for the ruling party to focus on bread and butter issues.  The country needs to move forward.  The run-up to the congress also put Zimpapers on the block. The zeal with which they “investigated” corruption and fraud allegations against Vice-President Joice Mujuru must continue if their aim was really to get rid of the rot in the country rather than to expose Mujuru as an individual. For there to be corruption, there must be two people or more, so singling out Mujuru, was grossly unfair. Besides, Zimpapers itself has exposed several scandals which it has not followed through. The Air Zimbabwe scandal and salarygate are just two of those still fresh in most people’s minds. The media should never be used to settle personal vendettas.
