Cyclone Idai deaths in Zimbabwe now at 172

The number of people known to have died in Zimbabwe after Cyclone Idai has risen to 172 but a staggering 327 are missing, according to the latest figures from the Ministry of Information.

The ministry said 99 have been buried so far.

Cyclone Idai hit the country two weeks ago and was worst in Chimanimani and Chipinge though Bikita district in Masvingo was also adversely affected with at least five deaths.

Aid has been pouring from across the world to help the victims but there are now fears that some of the aid might be abused.
