Coronavirus deaths in Zimbabwe down to 2, Mnangagwa to address nation on lockdown tomorrow

Coronavirus deaths in Zimbabwe dropped to two today with one day to go before the expiry of the strict level 4 lockdown which has been in operation for nearly six weeks.

President Emmerson Mnangagwa is expected to address the nation on the way forward tomorrow afternoon. The time is still to be advised.

There were 68 new cases today and 512 recoveries which saw the number of active cases drop to 3 171.

So far 35 172 Zimbabweans have contracted the virus, 30 601 have recovered and 1 400 have died.

Harare now has 1 369 active cases, Manicaland 594, Mashonaland West 368 and Bulawayo 225.

Matebeleland North, which was in third place yesterday, now has 168 cases after 295 people recovered.

Zimbabwe is in a catch-22 as South Africa has re-opened its borders including Beitbridge, the busiest, but doctors in Zimbabwe say the country should not open its borders to prevent the South African strain from coming into the country.

South Africa has recorded 1.49 million cases and 47 899 deaths but active cases are down to 55 587.
