Coronavirus cases nearly reach 5 million globally

The number of coronavirus cases in the world has nearly topped five million with 320 186 deaths and nearly 2.7 million active cases.

Zimbabwe still has 46 cases of which 24 are active but it has only tested 29 227 people.

The country is under a national lockdown which allows some commercial activities and intra-city travel provided people wear face masks.

The Ministry of Health, however, warns the public that children under two years should not wear masks because they are not able to remove them should they feel suffocated.

The ministry has also lifted the ban on walking, jogging, cycling and other outdoor exercises such as walking one’s dog.

United States, United Kingdom and Italy continue to lead the number of deaths with the US at 91 981, UK with 34 796 and Italy, 32 007.

The US has tested 12.3 million, the UK 2.7 million and Italy 3 million.

Russia has tested 7.1 million but it has 290 678 cases of which 217 747 are active.  Some 2 722 have so far died.
