Chombo says Zimbabwe will hunt down human traffickers that are on the run

Home Affairs Minister Ignatius Chombo told the Senate on Thursday that the government will hunt down seven people suspected of trafficking in women and make sure that they are brought to book.

He said that some 32 people were engaged in human trafficking, 20 of them inside Zimbabwe.

“Together with the ZRP, we arrested them because they engaged in criminal activities. That is the duty of the police to ensure that they are brought to book. We have about seven who are on the run,” he said.

“No matter where they go, we will still apprehend them and bring them to book because of the trauma they have caused to our children.”

About 150 women are said to have been trafficked to Kuwait after being promised jobs in the Middle Eastern country only to end up being employed under slave conditions and at times being forced to have sex with up to 10 men a day.

There has been an uproar over the vice which allegedly involves some legislators.
