Chombo remanded to 8 January, Chipanga ad Hamandishe to 21 December

Former Finance Minister Ignatius Chombo who is facing a raft of corruption charges, was yesterday remanded to 8 January next year.

His colleagues former Zimbabwe African National Union-Patriotic Front youth leaders Kudzanai Chipanga and Innocent Hamandishe were remanded to21 December.

Chombi is out on $5 000 bail and is accused of fraudulently acquiring ZW$14 billion loan from the Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe under a livestock and crops support facility in 2006 which he used to import Toyota Hilux Vigo vehicles.

He is also accused of using his influence as Minister of Local Government to allocate himself properties valued at $3.6 million in Harare.

Chipanga is accused of publishing or communicating false statements prejudicial to the State while Hamandishe is facing kidnapping charges.

All three were among the kingpins in the G40 faction of ZANU-PF which sought to propel former first lady Grace Mugabe to vice-president.

The plan was scuttled when the military intervened to stop the country from being taken over by “criminals”.
