Vice-President Constantino Chiwenga who was receiving treatment in South Africa has gone to China for further medical tests.
Presidential spokesman George Charamba said Chiwenga’s relocation, “which builds on the satisfactory recovery progress he has been making, follows weekend discussions at the highest level between governments of Zimbabwe and China, at which a decision was taken to allow Chinese medical experts to join their expert counterparts from Zimbabwe, South Africa and India in attending to the Vice President”.
Chiwenga has been ill for some time and has moved from South Africa to India and back to South Africa with a brief stint in Zimbabwe.
Mnangagwa told the party Women’s League last week that Chiwenga was recovering and was now able to exercise on his own.
Some observers have expressed surprise at the sudden transparency about Chiwenga’s illness by the government.
