Chindori-Chininga congratulated Mpofu for a job well done

Edward Chindori-Chininga and Obert Mpofu may not have seen eye to eye. But Chindori-Chininga congratulated Mpofu, Ministry of Mines officials and the diamond mining companies for the investment and work they did to make mining in Chiadzwa a reality and for working hard to make Zimbabwe diamonds KP compliant.

This praise is contained in the Parliamentary Committee on Mines and Energy Report released before his death.

Most of the reporting on the committee’s findings has focussed on how diamond revenue has been diverted from treasury.

Some reports have even suggested that Chindori- Chininga, who died in a car accident shortly after the release of the report, was assassinated because of his “critical” report.

Chindori-Chininga did not seem to see eye to eye with Mpofu and at one time described him as a crook and a thief, but the report congratulates him for a job well done in its concluding remarks.

It encourages the government and the diamond mining companies to take all measures necessary to properly resettle people of Chiadzwa and provide adequate compensation to the villagers and business people.

It said only 693 families of out 4 300 have been relocated.
