Chaos still reigns in MDC-T

The death of Movement for Democratic Change leader Morgan Tsvangirai may only have temporarily cooled off infighting within his party but they could burst once he is buried.

Nelson Chamisa was yesterday appointed acting president of the party for a year but this did not go down well with the party’s only elected vice-president Thokozani Khupe.

According to Newsday, Khupe blasted Chamisa for being insensitive and power hungry when he visited Tsvangirai’s home yesterday

“You can’t even wait for two days to have Tsvangirai buried so that you can do your shenanigans to get power?” Khupe said.

“You are very power-hungry and your conduct leaves a lot to be desired. Even in our culture, even if there is a wedding and someone dies, the wedding is called off.

“Tsvangirai dies and you go on with a meeting to appoint yourself as leader. How shameful! All we were supposed to do was to suspend everything except funeral arrangements.”

The other vice-president Elias Mudzuri did not attend the meeting at which Chamisa was appointed.

According to the Herald, he had instead called a press conference at Tsvangirai’s home but it failed to materialise.

Burial arrangements for Tsvangirai are still be announced but he is given a state funeral.

President Emmerson Mnangagwa did not declare Tsvangirai a national hero despite showering him with praise.
