Chamisa says ZANU-PF killed Tsvangirai

Movement for Democratic Change Alliance leader Nelson Chamisa says the Zimbabwe African National Union-Patriotic Front killed MDC founding president Morgan Tsvangirai in an effort to weaken the opposition and wanted his bitter rival Thokozani Khupe to take over instead.

According to Newsday, Chamisa told a rally at Chitungwiza: “I am saying this for the first time. There are people who connived to kill our leader Morgan Tsvangirai.

“They thought that if they killed him, they would weaken the party. Little did they know that they were rekindling brighter flames that would consume them? They are shedding crocodile tears, but we know they killed him.”

The MDC-T had three vice-presidents at the time- Thokozani Khupe, Elias Mudzuri and Nelson Chamisa but Chamisa wrestled leadership of the party within hours  of Tsvangirai’s death in South Africa.

When Tsvangirai’s mother arrived in Harare with his body she said she did not want to see Chamisa and Tsvangirai’s wife Elizabeth and threatened to kill herself.

No one ever sought an explanation as to why she was so upset but instead rumour started spreading that she was not even Tsvangirai’s biological mother.

Khupe refused to accept Chamisa’s leadership saying she was constitutionally the leader following Tsvangirai’s death as she was the elected deputy president. This led to the party splitting with Khupe now leading the MDC-T.

Chamisa and Elias Mudzuri were appointed by Tsvangirai.

But Chamisa told the rally at Chitungwiza: “They (Zanu PF) are right now disappointed, panicking and hopeless. They developed a parasite (referring to Khupe). Don’t supply it with fertiliser, it will destroy the country”.
