Chamisa now says Mnangagwa did not poll more than one million votes!

Movement for Democratic Change Alliance leader Nelson Chamisa today dropped a bombshell when he told his twitter followers that President-Elect Emmerson Mnangagwa must concede defeat because he did not poll more than one million authentic votes.

Mnangagwa was declared the winner of the 30 July elections by the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission with nearly 2.5 million votes but Chamisa challenged the result claiming that the results were rigged.

He claims he won the elections with 2.6 million votes and must be declared the winner.

Chamisa filed an application with the Constitutional Court challenging the results and his lawyers were expected to file their answering affidavit by noon today.

Mnangagwa’s team is expected to file theirs on Monday by 10am.

Chamisa, however, today tweeted: “ED must concede defeat. We & YOU won this election. The ballot not the bullet defines Our fate. It’s now clear to Zimbos & the whole world that ZEC is a global shame after embarrassingly revising ED figures further downwards. Thanks 2 the Con-court petition #thetruthshallsetusfree!”

The Zimbabwe Electoral Commission has admitted that there were some mathematical errors but these were not enough to overturn Mnangagwa’s victory.

A candidate needs to win 50 percent of the total votes cast plus one vote to be an outright winner.

Scores of Chamisa supporters congratulated him saying they are ready for his presidency but one Tanaka said: “U misled the ppl n confusing enuf u kip on misleading them, u shld accept defeat n let the ppl move on , wy ah u so power hungry. It was a gud trial bt zvaramba jus let it go let the building of the nation begin  thru Ed wozodzokawo later.”

Chamisa responded: “The people voted Tanaka and we must have the decency to respect their will. ED does not have authentic votes above one million. The rest are concocted, engineered and forced.”

The Constitutional Court is expected to hear the case on Wednesday and can declare Chamisa a winner, maintain that Mnangagwa won, call for fresh elections or a run-off if it determines that Mnangagwa did not win more than 50 percent of the vote.

Chamisa’s supporters, however, pleaded with him not to go for a run-off as they would be “massacred”.

Chamisa pledged to give his 18-year-old sister to Mnangagwa as a wife if he polled more than 5 percent of the vote.
