Chamisa leaked Mangoma’s letter to Tsvangirai to the media

A member of the Movement for Democratic Change claims that national organising secretary Nelson Chamisa leaked to the media the letter by deputy treasurer-general Elton Mangoma to party leader Morgan Tsvangirai calling on him to step down to save the party.

But it was Tsvangirai incensed at his leadership being put to question that shared the letter with the standing committee.

According to the Herald, this is contained in email exchanges between Eddie Cross and Kerry Kay both of whom felt that the MDC was in trouble and could face imminent collapse.

The paper said Cross had admitted sending the email to Kerry in which he complained that the party was in chaos and Gorden Moyo had withdrawn for three months.

Cross said Chamisa and his deputy Abednico Bhebhe were responsible for the chaos. He said there was now a totally dysfunctional leadership in Matabeleland North and South, Bulawayo and Manicaland.

Cross proposed a congress for next year, a year before it is due, but Kerry said holding a congress as things stood would be disastrous.

“I agree to call a congress in 2015 all very well but all contentious issues including succession need to be addressed well before. Congress always bring the worst out in most cases of our leadership and a congress in only a year will be disastrous and without doubt the campaigning and congress itself will again be fraught with violence,” she said.

Chamisa has been accused of harbouring presidential; ambitions as he qualifies to contest in 2018.

Mangoma was suspended from the party for among other things discussing party issues through the media. His hearing is pending.
