Chamisa in trouble

Movement for Democratic Change Alliance leader Nelson Chamisa’s campaign is in trouble.

According to the Daily News the party has hit hard times and is appealing for funds to finance its campaign.

Zimbabwe is holding crucial elections in 29 days.

National chairman Morgen Komichi told the paper that the party is seeking contributions from supporters and well-wishers and has launched a “donate for change” appeal.

“We are calling upon Zimbabweans to contribute towards the struggle for change. We cannot say how much we want because we only want enough resources to campaign, so we are saying our supporters who can afford and well-wishers should come on board,” Komichi said.

According to the Daily News, the MDC’s situation has been worsened by donor fatigue and a series of blunders over the years and its poor performance in the unity government that ran between 2009 and 2013.

The MDC Alliance campaign has been centred on Chamisa. Sunday Mail columnist, Bishop Lazarus even quipped: “Little Chamisa is the party, the party manifesto, the party structure, the party programme and the party campaign. Everything is centralized around little Chamisa. Bvunzai ZANU-PF kuti zveone centre of power zvakavasvitsa kupi?”
