Chamisa begs for funds to pay legal costs and to challenge ConCourt ruling

The Movement for Democratic Change Alliance which lost its election challenge case at the Constitutional Court on Friday and was asked to pay the costs has launched a campaign to raise funds to pay the costs as well as for a petition it intends to lodge with the African Commission for Human and People’s Right to nullify the Constitutional Court ruling that confirmed President Emmerson Mnangagwa the winner.

The party is asking sympathisers to donate through Ecocash and through crowd-sourcing platform GoFundMe.

It has not stated how much it intends to raise but on GofundMe the target was £1 million last night but is now £100 000.

The campaign dubbed: “i donate to protect our vote” was launched by deputy treasurer Charlton Hwende on his facebook page and reads: “The 2.6 million people that voted for #Chamisa have been challenged by an order of costs by the Constitutional Court. They will NEVER break our spirit!

“The MDC kindly requests for donations by all #development & #peace loving Zimbabweans to support its costs in the #Concourt case & at the African Commission!”

It then asks those interested to send donations to an Ecocash account or to the crowd-sourcing platform.

It is not yet clear how much the party will be asked to pay in legal costs but it will have to foot the bill of President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s lawyers as well as those that represented the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission.
