Chamisa is contesting this month’s elections under the Alliance banner while Khupe is contesting on the MDC-T ticket.
The Khupe faction has taken the decision as a victory and now says it has instructed its lawyers to take legal action to recover the $1.8 million that was given to Chamisa under the Political Finances act.
“The legitimate, lawful and constitutional MDC-T led by Hon. Dr. Thokozani Khupe, has instructed our lawyers to institute legal action to recover the sum of $1.8 million that was improperly and fraudulently paid to our erstwhile comrades in terms of the Political Parties (Finance) Act,” MDC-T deputy president Obert Gutu said.
Chamisa’s lawyer, Thabani Mpofu, however, said the case was not over. It will be heard on the normal roll.
The Chamisa faction seems to be running out of funds to finance its campaign and is now appealing for donations.
