Canadian paper says Mugabe’s death is now Zimbabwe’s best hope

Zimbabwe African National Union-Patriotic Front leader Robert Mugabe’s victory has shocked the West so much that a Canadian paper, The National Post, is now wishing Mugabe dead. It said that Mugabe’s death is now Zimbabwe’s best hope.

The paper did not explain how Zimbabweans, who gave Mugabe a two-thirds majority in Parliament and three-fifths of the presidential vote, would benefit from his death. Even if Mugabe dies he is likely to be replaced by someone from his own party who will have to implement party policy.

The West has ruled that the elections did not reflect the will of the people of Zimbabwe yet it had initially said it would go with the decision of African observers, who cleared the elections as credible and called on the opposition Movement for Democratic Change to accept the results.

The MDC said it is going to challenge the results, but even its staunchest supporters are saying after three failed attempts, even with allegations of rigging, MDC leader Morgan Tsvangirai should step down.

The Canadian paper continued to peddle the same old, unproven story, that Mugabe is benefitting from the country’s diamonds.

“That’s more than enough to fuel Mugabe and his famously lavish-spending wife, Grace, through the end of his latest mandate, if he lives that long. Mugabe will be 90 in February. He is known to have health problems. Even diamonds and violence can’t keep him alive forever,” the paper said.

Eddie Cross, one of Tsvangirai’s lieutenants who was re-elected to parliament last week clearly stated how ZANU-PF had won the elections.
