Bulawayo the best place to live in Zimbabwe

Bulawayo, Zimbabwe’s second largest city often described as a dying city, is probably the best place to live in Zimbabwe according to a survey on lived poverty by Afrobarometer carried out between 16 and 29 November last year.

Only 68 percent of the people in the survey said they had gone out without enough cash. This was the lowest percentage for the country with the two provinces of Matebeleland both scoring 100 percent the number of people that had gone without cash.

In the capital, Harare, the figure stood at 94 percent, with Mashonaland Central scoring 98 percent, Masvingo 95 percent, Midlands 91percent, Manicaland 88 percent and Mashonaland East 87 percent.

Harare only beat Bulawayo on access to food. Only 35 percent in Harare said they had gone without enough food.

Bulawayo was one notch higher at 36 percent, with Mashonaland Central and Matabeleland South the worst hit at 69 percent, each.

Bulawayo also had the best health care with only 39 percent saying they had gone out with enough medical care. Harare scored 58 percent with Matebeleland South at the bottom at 71 percent.

Matebeleland North beat all the provinces in terms of water availability as well as that of cooking fuel. Only 29 percent said they had problems with water and a paltry 13 percent with cooking fuel.

Bulawayo scored 59 percent for water and 84 percent for cooking fuel while Harare scored 83 percent for both.
