Bulawayo man dies of coronavirus, 18 test positive and 16 recover

A 54-year old Bulawayo man with no history of travel died of the coronavirus yesterday bringing the tally to nine.

Eighteen people, 16 of them returning residents from South Africa, tested positive raising the number of cases to 734 out of the 80 654 tested so far.

Sixteen others- 12 from Harare and two each from Masvingo and Midlands- recovered.

The number of people that have recovered so far is now 197.

There are 528 active cases.

Bulawayo now accounts for four of the nine deaths, Harare has three while the Midlands and Mashonaland West have one each.

Globally, there are now 11.7 million cases with 540 800 deaths, 6.7 million recoveries and 4.5 million active cases.

The United States had just topped three million cases and has more than 132 000 deaths.

Five African countries with the highest number of cases are:

  1. South Africa                       205 700
  2. Egypt                                     76 200
  3. Nigeria                                  29 200
  4. Ghana                                   21 000
  5. Algeria                                  16 400
