Zimbabwe recoded 46 new coronavirus cases today, more than half of them from Bulawayo which now has 40 active cases up from just two at the beginning of this week.

Cases in Harare, on the other hand, continue to drop and are now at 477 while those in Manicaland rose to 125 and in Matebeleland North to 194.

There were four deaths today and only 24 recoveries with the number of deaths rising to 1 496 and recoveries to33 996 while the number of cases now stands at 36 423.

There are now 931 active cases. Bulawayo had 24 new cases today.

Some 264 people were vaccinated today raising the total to 36 283.

According to the Zimbabwe Fact-checking organisation, Zimfact, the vaccination rollout plan targeted to inoculate 60 000 people in Phase 1.

This included 49 000 health workers employed by the Ministry of Health, 4 200 from the Zimbabwe Defence Forces, 500 health workers in the Zimbabwe Republic Police, and over 700 health workers in the Zimbabwe Prisons and Correctional Services.

Phase 1 also targeted staff at the Zimbabwe Revenue Authority, the Department of Immigration, and agriculture extension workers.

The rollout plan targeted to complete this phase within 10 days.

The government has therefore missed its target.
