Budget airline Fastjet increases Harare – Dar flights

Budget airline, Fastjet Plc, says it has increased the number of flights on its Harare – Dar es Salaam, Tanzania route from four to seven, in response to strong passenger demand.

Chief commercial officer Richard Bodin said the expanded schedule will see approximately 1 000 extra seats each week added to the flights between the two cities.

“The new daily flight schedule will commence on September 13, 2015 and tickets for the additional flights are currently on sale. Fares start from as little as $50 one-way, excluding airport and government taxes,” he said in a statement.

“The increased daily frequencies emphasize our commitment to growing our flight schedule in Zimbabwe.”

The latest announcement comes after Fastjet said it was in the final stages of its application to the Civil Aviation Authority of Zimbabwe (CAAZ) for an air operating certificate for its subsidiary, Fastjet Zimbabwe.

Once the certificate is issued, the company will officially commence domestic flights in Zimbabwe.

Bodin said Fastjet Zimbabwe will be a local majority-owned low-cost airline.

The company said it expects to employ a similar level of staff to Fastjet in Tanzania, which has a total of 170 people directly involved with the airline.

Fastjet announced in May this year that it had leased an Airbus A319 jet aircraft for the Fastjet Zimbabwe fleet.

The budget airline also intends establishing international routes to Johannesburg, Cape Town and Durban in South Africa, Nairobi in Kenya, and Lusaka in Zambia.- The Source
