Britain prefers illegal Zimbabweans to return home voluntarily

Britain prefers Zimbabweans with no legal basis of stay in the United Kingdom to leave voluntarily and may even offer them assistance to help them reintegrate in their home country, Minister of State in the Home Office James Brokenshire said yesterday.

He was responding to a question from Conservative legislator Steven Barker who asked what the government policy on the deportation of Zimbabweans with no legal right to remain in the UK was.

“We prefer people who have no legal basis of stay in the United Kingdom to leave voluntarily and we may offer an assistance package to help them re-integrate into their home country.

“For those who choose not to do so, and who have the appropriate travel documentation, we will seek to enforce their removal,” he said.
