Bikita West could be tricky for ZANU-PF

The Zimbabwe African National Union-Patriotic Front which has so far deployed its heavyweights to campaign for Beauty Chabaya for the Bikita West seat could face a tough time as the candidate does not seem to be popular with the locals.

Though from Bikita Chabaya is married and is now living outside the district.

Local leaders have complained that the party should have looked for someone born and still living in the district not someone whose husband and family are now outside the district.

Six candidates are vying for the seat whose by-elections are on tomorrow.

The leading challenger is Kudakwashe Gopo of the Zimbabwe People First who was previously a ZANU-PF youth leader and seems popular with locals, except that he now belongs to an opposition party.

But local leaders have been heard saying it is better to vote for him because he is one of them.

There have also been whispers that Chabaya belongs to the G40 faction and was imposed on the people.

This cost ZANU-PF the Norton by-election just over three months ago and there are whispers that this could also happen in Bikita West.

ZANU-PF has already lost the Bikita West twice to the opposition.
