Another twist to Zimbabwe doctors’ strike

The secretary general of the Zimbabwe Hospital Doctors Association Mthabisi Bhebhe says he did not sign the agreement reached yesterday ending the doctors’ month-long strike saying it was signed by an Apex representative who does not speak on behalf of the doctors.

The Sunday Mail said Bhebhe had signed the agreement but the Standard said the agreement was signed by a P Chivese representing the workers.

“The person who signed the deal is only an Apex representative. He does not speak on behalf of the doctors. We refused to counter-sign the agreement because we do not agree with a number of issues contained in the so-called agreement. In short, the strike is still on. It is unfortunate that government wants to play to the gallery with facts,” Bhebhe said.

The government is meeting government workers representatives tomorrow.
