Active coronavirus cases in Zimbabwe drop slightly as more people recover

More people than those who turned positive recovered from coronavirus in Zimbabwe yesterday resulting in the number of active cases dropping slightly to 1 523.

There were 74 new cases against 106 recoveries most of them in Bulawayo and Matebeleland South.

Bulawayo had 63 recoveries against 31 new cases while Matebeleland South had only three new cases and 31 recoveries.

The number of active cases in Bulawayo dropped to 553 and that for Matebeleland South to 201. Harare has 212 active cases.

There was, however, one death in Manicaland which saw the number of deaths in the province rise to 28 and that for the nation to 305.

Manicaland had the third highest number of deaths in the country after Harare with 141 and Bulawayo with 83.

Zimbabwe has so far recorded 11081 cases and 9 253 recoveries.

The number of cases across the globe surpassed 70 million globally yesterday with the United States surpassing 16 million cases. It should clock 300 000 deaths any time today.

Globally there are now 1.59 million deaths, 49.1 million recoveries and nearly 20 million active cases.

The situation also seems to be deteriorating in neighbouring South Africa.

The country has so far recoded 836 764 cases, 22 747 deaths and has 57 346 active cases.

The number of active cases has been rising over the past week as it had gone down to 37 227at the beginning of this month.
