William Mutumanje, also known as Acie Lumumba, who was reported by a Sunday paper yesterday to have been abducted following his insulting remarks on President Robert Mugabe, today handed himself over to the police.
Lumumba announced the formation of his party, Viva Zimbabwe, on Thursday but said he would not contest the elections in 2018 because he felt there were much better people than him.
There was wide speculation about what happened to him after he disappeared soon after his remarks with initial reports saying he was on the run.
The Standard yesterday reported that family and friends had told the paper that they feared that he had been abducted.
Activist Itai Dzamara was abducted last year in March and has not been heard of since.
