8 die of coronavirus in Zimbabwe, nearly 8 000 vaccinated

Eight Zimbabweans died of coronavirus today with five days to go before a review of the national lockdown but the number of new cases is going down with the seven-day rolling average dropping from 85 to 77.

There were 50 new cases today raising the total to 35 960 and the number of deaths to 1 456.

Some 122 people recovered bringing to the total to date to 32 410. The recovery rate rose to 90.3%.

The number of active cases dropped to 2 094. Harare now has 804, Manicaland 564, Mashonaland West 229 and Bulawayo 119.

Some 2 074 people were vaccinated today bringing the total to 7 872.

China today said it is donating another 200 000 doses of vaccine to make a total of 400 000, enough for 200 000 people.

Zimbabwe has bought 600 000 does, enough for 300 000 people.

It says it intends to vaccinate 10 million people.

Vaccination is voluntary.
