47 die of coronavirus in Zimbabwe, 273 die in 14 days

Forty-seven Zimbabweans died of coronavirus today pushing the death toll for this month to 273 against 363 people that died from March to December last year.

So far 636 Zimbabwe had died of the pandemic out of the 25 368 cases.

There were 1 112 new cases today. The number of cases has risen to 11 501 in the past 14 days compared with 13 867 from March to December.

Today, however, 1 056 people recovered, more than half of them in Harare. Some 14 714 people have recovered so far. The recovery rate improved slightly from 56.3% yesterday to 58 %.

The number of active case rose slightly to 10 019 with Harare having 4 495, Manicaland 1 121, Mashonaland East 988 and Bulawayo 655.

Active cases in Bulawayo continued to drop after it recorded 42 new cases but had 59 recoveries and one death.

In Harare active cases dropped because it had 467 new cases, 561 recoveries and 10 deaths.

Manicaland had 183 new cases, 50 recoveries and seven deaths.

Mashonaland East had 117 new cases and five deaths. No recoveries.

Mashonaland West had 20 deaths today alone.

The situation across the globe continued to deteriorate with the number of cases increasing to 93.3 million. Deaths now total nearly two million. Recoveries stand at 66.6 million and active cases have risen to 24.7 million.
