22-year-old Bulawayo man dies of coronavirus as Zimbabwe death toll rises to 81

A 22-year-old Bulawayo man died of coronavirus today raising the death toll to 81.

Only seven people had died of coronavirus up to the end of June, but 60 more died in July and 14 have died so far this month.

There were 146 new cases today bringing the total to 4 221.

Some 181 people recovered today, 102 of them from the Midlands and 78 from Bulawayo.

A total of 1 238 have recovered from the virus but there are still 2 902 active cases.

The bulk of the active cases are now in Harare which has one of the lowest recovery rates.

Only 76 of the 1 625 cases in the capital have recovered while 515 of the 1 065 cases in Bulawayo have recovered.

Globally there are now 18.6 million cases which include 700 700 deaths, 11.8 million recoveries and 6.1 million active cases.

South Africa now has 516 862 cases and 8 539 deaths.
